Giving Tuesday Now
Reading Time: 3 minutes

It’s officially #GivingTuesdayNow, the global day of giving created by the team at Giving Tuesday as an emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Donors across the country will show their support for nonprofits that are mobilizing coronavirus relief efforts or raising emergency funds to sustain daily operations.

Today, as the social sector rallies around the cause, we’ll track fundraising totals, total donations made, average size of donation, COVID-specific data, and so much more in our real-time giving hub. Follow along and see how the generosity of donors powers the Classy community, and learn how organizations across the U.S. are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Below, we’ll walk you through the exciting details of the real-time hub, provide ways you can get involved immediately, and explain how Classy is giving back to nonprofits at a time when they need support most.

Real-Time Giving Hub

Classy’s real-time giving hub is a place where everyone can follow along for up-to-the-minute giving trends on #GivingTuesdayNow, like:

  • Total amount raised on #GivingTuesdayNow
  • Number of active campaigns
  • How many donations were made on Classy
  • Number of active COVID-19 direct response campaigns
  • Amount Raised for COVID-19 direct response campaigns
  • Top cause categories by amount raised
  • Total raised by state
  • Peak giving times

Additionally, donors who visit the real-time giving hub can quickly identify nonprofits responding to the pandemic right in their own backyard with our new interactive map.

This map presents fundraising campaigns that directly benefit their local community. You can explore the map, locate a nonprofit, and click through to donate directly to their campaign.

If there are no nonprofits in your direct vicinity, you’ll have the option to donate to the Classy National Relief Fund. We’ll dig into details about this national fund in the next section.

How Classy Is Supporting Nonprofits and Donors

Aside from the real-time giving hub and interactive map, Classy is working to give back to both local and national nonprofits on #GivingTuesdayNow. To that end, we’ve started two relief funds, one that’s specific to our hometown of San Diego and one that benefits organizations on the front lines of COVID-19 relief nationwide.

Classy’s National Relief Fund consists of select national nonprofits tackling the relief and recovery efforts from different, but complementary, angles across the United States including:

  • Gary Sinise Foundation
  • Team Rubicon
  • Teach For America
  • First Book
  • La Jolla Institute for Immunology
  • The Trevor Project
  • Oxfam America
  • Feeding America
  • CDC Foundation
  • World Central Kitchen

On a more local scale, we started the Classy San Diego Relief Fund in the form of a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign that benefits six local nonprofits. In total, we’ve committed to raising $60,000 for six nonprofits supporting some of the most vulnerable populations in our local community. The beneficiaries are:

  • Feeding San Diego
  • Mama’s Kitchen
  • Project Concern International
  • San Diego LGBT Community Center
  • Deaf Community Services of San Diego
  • The San Diego Foundation

For both of these funds, Classy is waiving fees for all money donated in an effort to increase the total amount each nonprofit beneficiary receives.

#GivingTuesdayNow presents all of us with an opportunity to come together and support nonprofits at a time when it’s needed most. If you’re looking to donate, head to our real-time giving hub now and explore the interactive map. If you’re a nonprofit, make sure you share the link to the real-time giving hub in your communications so donors can follow along and be excited to participate.
