For more than 30 years, the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF), has helped children and families bridge economic and educational disparities with academic enrichment, social and emotional development, mentoring, career exposure and college prep. HEAF has a long-standing track record of delivering strong, permanent outcomes in excess of NYC and national averages. 100% of our students graduate high school on time and are admitted into college.
HEAF's programs and support have been even more essential during the COVID-19 pandemic, as NYC’s underserved populations were disproportionately affected by an educational crisis fueled by the digital divide. Our staff provide students and families with engaging programs and individualized support. In addition to exceptional virtual programming, with classes and activities like Students in Action, Learning for Social Impact, STEM Classes, Youth Development, and Industry Immersion career exposure and mentoring, we also ensure social justice is addressed in class discussions so our students have opportunities to express their opinions and share their concerns in a safe space.
HEAF makes an 11-year commitment to its students, beginning in the 6th grade and staying with them all the way through college graduation.
In support of the 11-year commitment, we graciously ask to give what you can, whether it's $11 or more. It's give $11 and ask 11. It's that simple. And with your help, we can take this small grassroots campaign and turn it into something even bigger, allowing HEAF's commitment to bridging the education and opportunity gaps for our students to remain strong and unwavering.
Let's reach our $77,000 goal - in 11 days. #HEAF11X11 TOGETHER it will be done!
HEAF, the Harlem Educational Activities Fund(www.heaf.org) is an extraordinary college prep and leadership program founded in 1989 by Daniel and Joanna Rose. HEAF was established in response to a compelling need to close the opportunity gaps in public education confronting underserved minorities in Harlem, Washington Heights, the Bronx and Brooklyn. Since that time, we have expanded our reach of the "forgotten middle" to include students from four of the five boroughs attending over 100 public schools across the city. HEAF creates pathways to college and the professional world for over 600 deserving New York City youth each year, by providing resources that help them achieve higher education, fulfilling careers, and greater lifetime earnings.
