The Impact of Your Support
You want to be a climate change problem-solver. Our horticulture work restores habitat and biodiversity on a hyper-local level. We source pollinator plants and grow them from seed in our Native Nursery at Under the K Bridge Park. Then we distribute these plants to parks, community gardens, schools and neighbors—creating a pollinator-supporting network for migrating and local species that are essential to our food chain.
You want to be hands-on in your community, whether that means picking up trash, planting plants, caring for trees, or pulling weeds. We organize volunteer programs and partner with more than 30 community organizations on events that enable volunteers of all ages to make a difference in their neighborhood and connect with others in the process.
Your favorite park is an extension of your home; it's your go-to place for hanging out with family and friends. A budget-challenged NYC Parks Department cannot meet the heavy demands on our beloved parks. We step in to fill the gap. At McGolrick Park, we hired two dedicated gardeners who have been weeding invasive species and putting in new native plants. We also invested in new picnic tables and rodent-resistant trash cans.
You’re passionate about urban design and desire public space that is safe, multimodal, equitable, and connects people in real life. We partner with the state and city DOT and community groups to transform underutilized space into new open streets, public plazas, and innovative parks. We have a long term district-wide vision to connect all our parks and plazas with amenities, consistent maintenance, and green corridors.
You’re concerned about our garbage-strewn streets. North Brooklyn is extremely vulnerable to flooding, especially when our storm drains are blocked with trash. In addition to addressing illegal dumping in the IBZ around Under the K Bridge Park, our maintenance team clears storm drains and picks up trash in heavy pedestrian areas several times a week—a service that we’d love to expand.
You love your dog and want areas dedicated to pets to be safe and clean–especially as dog ownership grows. Our mobile crew visits four dog runs weekly (at McGolrick, McCarren, Sternberg, and Cooper) to pick up trash, sweep ground cover, and remove hazards. We also work with dog run Friends Groups on large-scale clean up events.
You love being part of a scene! We believe that creating space for large-scale gatherings is essential to the vitality of our city. Our mission to deliver direct services to North Brooklyn’s parks and public spaces is made possible in part with funds raised by events at Under the K Bridge Park. When you dance with us under the bridge, you’re also supporting North Brooklyn’s local habitat and public space ecosystem!
You appreciate seeing art in unexpected places. We invest in public art because it encourages local economic growth, street safety, and community engagement. It also empowers emerging artists to tell stories that might not otherwise be shared. At Under the K Bridge Park, we’ve curated a total of 22 murals created since the park’s opening in 2021 and we have plenty of wall space to fill.
