Why We Lead
Join us to support the leadership of all our girls!
Provides two stipends for girls, to ensure they know that their lived experience and time is worthy of compensation. This is essential to making youth-led work possible.
Why We Lead
Girls Leadership, together with our Youth Research Council (YRC), and in collaboration with Evaluation Studio, just released the pioneering report “Why We Lead: Understanding and Supporting the Leadership of AANHPI Girls and Gender-Expansive Youth.”
As Qian Julie Wang notes in the report foreword, the report details how “our girls and gender-expansive youth are more ready than ever to step into leadership. All they need is for us—as educators, mentors, and advocates—to recognize and support all of the identities, backgrounds, and experiences that inform their strength and their power.”
While we have learned that schools are a major source of community for AANHPI girls and gender-expansive youth, we have also learned that this is where they experience bias and discrimination. Educators aren’t trained to talk about the aspects of identity that impact AANHPI girls and gender-expansive youth, especially generational status.
With your support Girls Leadership can amplify these findings across the US, bringing awareness to hundreds of thousands of educators, teachers, coaches and program staff. We will be able to train thousands of these professionals with the skills and provide them with the curriculum to ensure that all girls and gender expansive youth are seen and supported as powerful leaders.
As a group that has been historically overlooked, we know it is important to center the voices of AANHPI girls and gender-expansive youth, and when we do, all youth benefit.
We can’t do this transformational work without you. Every donation at any level makes a difference. Please consider making a gift today.
