About the Campaign

Join the t-shirt design contest. Help us add two new grade levels, 7th & 8th, to Uhuru Girls High School.

In 2021 you helped us grow our school from 70 to 120 students. Incredible. This year 30 of our students have either given their lives to Jesus for the first time or made a decision to rededicate their lives to Christ. Amazing! In the best way, our school has been bursting at the seams. Full classes. Full dorms. Full hearts and minds.

Today we are walking through a crisis- a Red Sea moment.

Two dominate issues:

  1. While our USA fundraising has stayed steady the impact of Covid-19 on Kenya is sending inflation soaring 18.6% over the past 24 months. We are struggling to meet the needs for food, transportation, firewood, escalating salaries and school rent increases.
  2. Last year we celebrated as we grew our student numbers to fill the school to maximum capacity. Then the Kenyan Ministry of Education surprised the nation by requiring all high schools to add multiple new grade levels- 7th & 8th. Our school will need new classrooms and dormitories, teachers, desks and supplies.

We are asking for your help.

Three ways to join us!

  1. Donate
  2. Vote
  3. Spread the word (Tell your friends & family.)

The Campaign

THE CONTEST

Our students in Kenya want to help, so we are holding a T-shirt designing contest for a 2nd year.

Thus far in the contest:

  • July 13th our Uhuru Girls desiged t-shirts expressing what education means to them.
  • July 21st our teachers then selected the top 5 candidates and announced those to the school.

Now, it is time for you to vote on your favorite t-shirt design.

Did you miss the Zoom call with our Top 5 Contestants and Field Director? Watch the recording here.

Saturday, August 6th:

Last day of the contest. The student whose t-shirt design wins the contest will get two things:

  • Her t-shirt will be given to every person in her family and each USA donor who gives $50 or more to this campaign.
  • The winning student will also receive "eternal glory" at the school as every student in her class will proudly wear her tshirt design while all others wear the normal school uniform.

Key places to give

Books for a Student $60

Provide books for a student at Uhuru Girls. In many schools in Kenya as many as 4-5 students share a single book. At our school each student gets their own books to help them thrive in their education.

Fundraise

Buy a Desk $75

Buy a desk for a student. This desk will be used year after year.

Fundraise

Build a Bunk Bed $125

Give a bed to two students. Our girls come from homes where as many as 6 family members share a bed. At school they get to enjoy their own bed. When you buy a bunk bed you provide a place to sleep for two girls.

Fundraise

Student Sponsorship (Partial) $38

Your $38 per month provides a home to a student at Uhuru Girls High School for 170 days. She will receive 510 meals, books, a uniform, the top private school education in the region and Christian discipleship. When you give a partial sponsorship, we partner you with others to help meet the full financial need for your student. You will be able to write and visit your specific student.

Fundraise

Your $175 per month provides a home to a student at Uhuru Girls High School for one year. She will receive 900 meals, books, a uniform, the top private school education in the region and Christian discipleship. You will be able to write and visit your student.

Fundraise

Fundraise

School Rent $3,500

Give our 100 students an incredible school by covering the school rent for an entire month.

Fundraise

Run Uhuru Academy for 1 month $15,500

Cover the additional funds needed to operate Uhuru Academy for one month. That means for one month you are giving each student a home and education. That covers for the students all food, lodging, utilities, teachers lessons, books, school rent and more. For the first 12 people who sign-up to cover this amount a local Durham, NC artist, Freeman Beard, has painted a picture for you from his time in Kenya with Freedom Global.
