The Adopt-A-Family Fund

Imagine: You and your children are spending the holidays in a domestic violence shelter, having left everything behind in your search for safety. Or perhaps you are now living on your own but still struggling from the effects of financial abuse.

How will you give your kids a happy holiday?

With the support of our incredible donors, Women’s Center & Shelter’s Adopt-A-Family program has been creating happier holidays for over ten years. And now the need is greater than ever. By donating and raising money for the Adopt-A-Family fund, you will make this holiday season as joyful as possible for survivors of domestic violence.

Why gift cards? It may seem impersonal, but your donation of Target, Wal-Mart, or Visa gift cards is deeply meaningful to the thousands of survivors who have had their spending power limited by their abusers. Providing gift cards upholds our value of Survivor-Centered Advocacy, prioritizing the needs and wishes of survivors by creating a supportive, affirming environment that treats all survivors with dignity and respect. 

Empowerment is a priceless gift. By symbolically adopting a family, you will help to restore hope and joy to survivors. By affording the opportunity to shop and select the perfect gift(s) for their own child(ren), you are helping to uplift survivors on the path to regain their sense of control and freedom.

Donations made to the Adopt-A-Family Fund will be used to purchase gift cards to support the nearly 1,000 survivors and children who depend on this program each holiday season. Any remaining funds are used to meet client needs throughout the year.
