About the Campaign

What will this money be used for?

Paying facilitators at our monthly “Big Meeting” ($250 per facilitator/ up to 3 facilitators).

Paying panelists and speakers at our regular outreach events ($100 per panelist/speaker).

Paying subscription fees for communication software (e.g. MailChimp, Zoom, Slack, and Squarespace).

We intend to establish a micro grant initiative to fund BIPOC work, such as offsetting the costs of hiring design assistants/associates, design materials, travel expenses, and union dues.

Who is Design Action?

Design Action is an inter-generational coalition of BIPOC and White designers working to end racial inequities in the North American Theater by confronting racism in our workplace and forging new pathways into the industry for rising designers of color. To see a list of some of our talented BIPOC members, you can visit our website!

How will we be transparent about these funds?

Design Action intends to be as transparent with funds as possible. We will be publicly publishing a redacted ledger (to preserve individuals’ anonymity) showing how the money is flowing in this organization. This method has been in practice internally since the inception of Design Action.

Can I join Design Action?

Our organization is composed of designers of many different backgrounds and intersectional identities, across the United States, and at all levels of development (from undergraduate students to multiple Tony-award winning designers). If you are a designer of color please feel free to join us by filling out the following Google Form in the Design Action Linktree.

Any white designers (that are considered highly established in the industry) who are interested in joining us should reach out by email at designaction2020@gmail.com.

Can I join your Outreach Mailing List?

We regularly hold community/outreach events which are typically for rising BIPOC designers and students. If you are a student who would like to attend our public events, but not necessarily join Design Action yet, you are welcome to join this list as well as any educators who wish to act as a point of contact between Design Action and their students. To join this list, please look to our Linktree.
