Celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

In 1987 President Ronald Reagan declared March as Developmental Disability Awareness Month at a time when ideas such as accessibility and inclusion were still not widely accepted.  At the same time, Adelante was already working to make these ideas mainstream through our programs for individuals with developmental disabilities.  In the decades since Adelante was formed, our programs and our mission have expanded significantly as the needs of both the DD community and New Mexico have changed, but our commitment to promoting independence, opportunity, and inclusivity remains strong, even when our ability to be together is limited, as it is currently. 

During this Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, Adelante is celebrating what it means to be included.  With your help, we can continue to make strides not only for people with developmental disabilities, but for all people facing barriers and isolation.   When you donate today, your gift is being used to create a warm and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and included.
