Remembering the Earthquake, 10 Years Later...
Ten years ago, on April 15th, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, transforming the lives of hundreds of thousands of families across the Himalayas.
Conscious Impact was born in the aftermath of this earthquake, joining with the rural community of Takure to rebuild schools, homes and community centers.
The earthquake destroyed every home in Takure except one, and we knew it would take years to rebuild.
Over our first 4 years, we made more than 200,000 Compressed Stabilized Earth Blocks (CSEBs) to be used to build a primary school, 3 community centers, two orphanages and more than 100 homes.
This support took thousands of hours of hard labor and hundreds of donations from amazing people (like you!) from around the world. By the end of 2019, almost every family in the region had rebuilt their homes.
But our work was not yet done...

Beyond Rebuilding:
Supporting Sustainable Livelihoods in Rural Nepal
From the beginning of our work, Conscious Impact was always committed to supporting beyond just reconstruction efforts. We understood from Day 1 that families needed more than just homes.
Takure and the surrounding communities are agricultural, and farming remains one of the only ways to generate income and provide food for families here in the Himalayan mountains.
Supporting sustainable, organic and income-generating agricultural practices has been one of our focuses from the beginning.
Through trainings, workshops and collaboration, we continue to support the next generation of farmers to find new meaning and direction in the ancient practices of agriculture. Our areas of focus include coffee cultivation and processing, mushroom cultivation, compost education and tree distribution.
In addition to the agriculture work, we have been supporting youth in the region for nearly 10 years. Today, continue to support local public schools through teacher trainings, school painting programs and workshops with inspiring partners from around the country.
Over the next 10 years, we are excited to continue providing essential support in the schools to help bridge the gap between the curricular goals and the outcomes. Every year, more children leave the area for private schools in Kathmandu, but with increased support we hope to elevate the curriculum and empower students to thrive academically in the local region.
Conscious Impact's work is only growing. In 2018, we completed our first water project, a 40,000 liter tank to serve more than 100 homes. By 2023, we had brought water to more than 200 homes across the region.
Since 2018, we have also completed 3 superadobe dome construction trainings, providing scholarships to Nepali nationals and spreading natural building techniques across the country.
After 10 years, Conscious Impact's 15 Nepali employees have more work than ever. We need your support to sustain this work. Please consider becoming a monthly donor, or making a one-time donation. Our team, the community and this land will be forever grateful.
