Alternatives is excited to share with you our vision to be debt free by our 40th anniversary in 2022. Through a private lender, the vision to have a presence directly across from Planned Parenthood was born and the building at 4200 West Michigan was built in 2002 with our doors officially opening to serve our first client a year later. The cost of this vision was $1.6 million. In 2005 the West Michigan Business Center was established and office suites were created to provide an income source to assist Alternatives with the mortgage payments. With a fully leased building, an annual income of $80,000 is raised.  In the December of 2017 Alternatives debt would be just over $1 million. In the spring of 2018 a match gift of $50,000 was provided and inspired us to work to quietly capture this match. This set in to motion the vision to be “Free to Serve”. God blessed us with 24 businesses and individuals who were passionate to join us and in 2018 we reached our first goal to pay $100,000 on our debt!  The campaign of “Free to Serve” was developed and another $40,000 was paid on our debt in 2019!

In 2020 Alternatives goal was to make the “Free to Serve” campaign known to our community of supporters, so that you too could join us on this incredible journey. We publicly launched “Free to Serve” in March of 2020, and then Covid hit. As none of us could predict the effect of Covid on our community, financially or otherwise, we chose to push the “pause” button to allow for compassion and perspective. In spite of the difficulties of this year, we are excited to share that over $27,000 has been given towards our goal! We thank God for this great provision and encouragement to keep on pursuing this goal.  We are excited at the possibilities of what God will do when our debt is paid and the resources can be put to ministry work; to SAVE LIVES, PROMOTE GROWTH AND MEET REAL NEEDS, all while sharing the love of Jesus Christ!
