Getting Out & Staying Out

Getting Out & Staying Out provides the resources and support young men in NYC need to avoid involvement in the criminal justice system by reshaping their futures through our Three Es Approach: Education, Employment and Emotional Well-Being

GOSO facilitates true rehabilitation by focusing on the individual's character, capacities and strengths, as well as his developmental needs and mental health. We aim to promote personal, professional and intellectual growth through goal-oriented programming and comprehensive social support services.

Supporting those on Rikers Island and in the Community

For many participants, their first encounter with GOSO is on Rikers Island. Staff from GOSO is on Rikers each week to support those who are incarcerated there. Staff ensures they are receiving the resources they need and reminds them that GOSO is there for them.

The Three Es are the foundaiton of our success.

Our education Center is a NYC Department of Education School and GOSO has two teachers who work with our students, as well as volunteer tutors who offer extra support.

Employment opportunities stem from our GOSOWorks Employment Program. We provide our participants paid internship opportunities with one of 70+ employer partners city-wide.

Our staff of Licensed Social Workers addresses emotional needs, too. We offer not only professional guidance, but also individualized therapy to those who have all too often experienced trauma in their lives and are in need of mental health support.

Due to the strength of our programming, our recidivism rate is below 15%, consistently low compared to the national average of over 60%.
