United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra is a collective-impact, problem-solving organization with a mission to unite communities to improve lives.

This means we are here:

• Activating the community to provide support and resources in a crisis. When families are in need and organizations are responding we are there to help fill in the gaps to relief and recovery.
• Offering high-quality pre-kindergarden to children with limited access to early opportunities. Research shows that children who start kindergarten academically behind are more likely to face challenges throughout their academic journey.
• Mailing free books to children to inspire a love of reading and give them a better chance at success. By creating home libraries and inspiring a love of reading, children enter school more prepared.
• Improving early reading proficiency and foundational literacy skills. We focus on 3rd grade reading levels because children who aren't reading proficiently at the end of 3rd grade are 4x less likely to graduation high school.
• Delivering essential goods and food to transportation-limited people. Our program bridges critical gaps to help people meet their basic needs.
