Support our 2023 Hood To Coast Team!
We're raising $50,000 So Every BODY Can Move
We believe movement is medicine. But today, thousands of individuals living with limb loss and limb difference are unable to afford and access life-changing prosthetic and orthotic care that helps them be physically active due to a lack of insurance coverage.
So Every BODY Can Move is working to change this through state-by-state legislative action, expanding access to this medically necessary care... and our 2023 Hood To Coast team of athlete-advocates is helping that vision become a reality!
Together, we will be racing in the renowned 198-mile, 36-hour Hood To Coast Relay this August 25th-26th to raise awareness and critical funds to power our movement for disability rights and fuel the legislative change sweeping the nation. Every dollar raised as part of our team will go back to powering So Every BODY Can Move and helping us reach our goal: 28x28. To pass this legislation in 28 states by the Paralympics & Olympics coming to US soil in Los Angeles in 2028!
Will you join our movement for change!? Donate to support disability rights!
We believe MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE and physical activity is a RIGHT, not a privilege. Our grassroots efforts are built by the community, for their community.
Meet The Team
“I wasn’t even aware that running as an amputee was possible until I was in my mid-20s. If my family had known that insurance would have stepped in to help cover the costs, if not the full cost, they may have pursued that a lot sooner for me in my childhood.”
"Health and fitness has been my life's work both with feet, and now with blades. It is vital to the mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing of an individual and as a society. The ability to move is essential to the success, fulfillment and empowerment of an individual."
“I would hide my arm during some sporting events, just because other people were uncomfortable. Sports have taught me how to embrace my own uniqueness. And don’t quit until you’re proud of yourself.”
"I'm doing this for my family and for other moms like me. I want to always be able to keep up with my girls; sometimes the only way is to strap on my running (prosthetic) foot. I’m a mother, so I make countless sacrifices for my kids, but giving up my mobility shouldn’t have to be one of them."
"In the midst of depression, after becoming an amputee, I decided to explore athletic options to help me get off pain meds. Movement helped alleviate the pain and it gave me something to focus on. I discovered track and field, and soon began training to become a sprinter at the Paralympics."
"The reason why individuals with disabilities who are physically active are viewed as an inspiration is because it’s just not normalized for us to be physically active. And that comes back to the lack of access. If every single person with limb loss or limb difference knew from the very beginning that they could get access to a device for physical activity, it would start to become normal."
"Movement can very much be therapy. It was easy for me to take for granted my mobility prior to my amputation. Due to my injuries and COVID, I was unable to receive my prosthesis for an extended period of time. I remember the struggles and emotions that coming with physical limitations and how my life opened up when I received my first prosthesis."
"Hood to Coast will be my first start line since Tokyo and I am incredibly proud that I will be in support of helping others find start lines of their very own. Sport has saved my life more times than once and this time I am humbled that it's what is helping me find my footing in the world again. Movement is medicine and access to that should not be a privilege."
"Every day is adversity. From funding for a new prosthesis, training, facilities, and rehab to issues with my residual limb or prosthesis. I get a lot of cuts and blisters along with trauma to my residual limb with training. My biggest accomplishments have been the ability to advocate for the disabled community and be a role model for our youth in adaptive/Paralympic sports."
"Our team will represent what can happen when you are able to gain access to proper prosthetic care. Why Hood to Coast? It’s claimed to be the largest running relays in the world, and we have an opportunity to educate and show thousands of people what we represent. I became an amputee as an adult and didn’t realize insurance would not cover activity prosthetics that would allow me to go back to all the activities I did before my accident."
"The ability to move is a gift. Our Hood To Coast team is an opportunity to bring awareness to the disabled community and be the movement for those who may not have access to the mobility they need."
"We teach others how we want to be treated. Our HTC team is teaching the world that people with disabilities deserve access to the appropriate prosthetic and orthotic care we need to be physically active and live our best lives. Physical activity is a human right!"
