Sciole Stars Support P.U.N.T.

The P.U.N.T. Pediatric Cancer Collaborative is a nonprofit organization that provides families in Western New York facing pediatric cancer with critical programs that offer financial, practical, and emotional support from diagnosis to recovery and bereavement.

P.U.N.T. has always been close to our hearts here at John A. Sciole. This year we are fundraising in honor of Lucas (a 1st grade student here at J.A.S) and in memory of Evelyn (a former Kindergarten student here at JAS). 

Our fundraiser runs from Monday, May 1st until Friday, May 12th. 

On May 12th we will be having a “Dress as Your Hero Day” in honor of our heroes Lucas and Evelyn. 

When Lucas was 4yrs old he was frequently becoming sick. He had two hospital stays with no signs of getting better. On May 1, 2020 Lucas had just turned 5yrs old and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Which is a form of cancer of the blood. During his treatments he has spent over 50 nights in the hospital receiving chemotherepy, blood transfusions, and over one thousand doses of miscellaneous medications. After spending two and a half years recieving treatments he was able to ring the bell on June 7th, 2022!  Lucas is currently 8yrs old and living a cancer free life! He still receives monthly check ups, and will continue screening for the rest of his life. Lucas has been blessed by our community with an overwhelming show of love and support, it is truly appreciated.

Evelyn has made an imprint on the Sciole community and will always live in our hearts. She fought a CNS malignancy called AT/RT, which stands for Atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor, from the age of (7) months old. Strong willed, creative, silly, and determined; she is pictured above with her favorite Cinderalla outfit. In honor of Evelyn, live in the moment, bust out your best dance moves, find the strength to defy the odds of whatever is holding you back, get up out of your seat and be the helper, and remember that: “And yet, through it all, Cinderella remained ever gentle and kind, for with each dawn she found new hope….”
