Lita and Rick Sample

San Francisco Bay Area, CA - Commissioned 2002

About the Samples' Ministry

Lita and Rick serve in the San Francisco Bay Area, commissioned in 2002. Lita and Rick have always felt a sense of compassion for internationals and see God’s call on their lives to forge a welcoming presence among the immigrants, refugees, and other internationals in their sphere of ministry. Their ministry among internationals strives to cultivate beloved community, bear witness to Jesus Christ and seek transformational development.

The San Francisco Bay Area is a diverse multi-cultural region of the United States with over 150 languages spoken among immigrant families in communities that we serve.  During more than twenty years of missionary service with CBF, Lita and Rick have engaged in ministries with over twenty ethnic groups including Afghan, Iranian, Karen, Turkish, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese.  We regularly encounter Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Hindus in our daily lives.  Among these people groups, Lita and Rick conduct many ministries, including:

  • Engaging in inter-faith dialogue with Jews, Muslims and Hindus.
  •  Developing friendships with immigrants, coordinating holistic ministries with refugees, and organizing activities with international students.
  • In concert with an Afghan Christian church, they facilitate outreach events including an Easter picnic, Christmas outreach, backpack drive and other seasonal occasions.  For many Afghan refugees they meet, this is their first time to encounter a community of Christ-followers in their own language.
  • Facilitate emergency food ministries among various refugee populations, bringing relief and hope for hungry families
