Loise Wafari is from the Osreian slum

About the Campaign

Loise is a fifteen year-old Form One (freshman) student at Uhuru Academy. Loise is a talented mathematician with a dream of becoming an accountant.  She also finds history to be a fascinating subject.  Her favorite topic to study in history class is the early man.  She thinks that it is very strange that they used to dig holes with sticks.  Loise is a very happy and humble young girl.

Loise lives with her mom and her two siblings in a slum called Osreian Village in a rented home.  At home, she loves to read story books and help her mom with chores, specifically washing dishes. This year, we have been able to invite Loise to come to Uhuru Academy our all girls boarding school. In spite of challenges girls in her community have lived through such as poverty, malnutrition, abuse and poorly resourced primary schools, we have seen her make education a priority, and we, in turn, are providing access to quality, individualized education emphasizing critical thinking with an aim to break the cycle of poverty. We have seen Loise work hard for her educaiton and we want to find sponsors who will help her continue in school.

Join us in sponsoring Loise as, together, we endeavor to break the cycle of poverty by addressing the causes not simply alleviating the symptoms. Research shows that education is essential to this process. Children who go to school are healthier, more confident, and more likely to become employed. Kenya does not have free secondary education. Only 50% of students who finish primary school go on to graduate high school. We seek to fill this gap by providing quality education to bright students from marginalized communities to equip students with the skills to permanently alter their life trajectory.

Your donations will make a tremendous impact. Loise will be able to Skype with American students, compete in sports, learn to be creative and attentive to the world around them through art education, visit places like the National Museums and Meteorological Centers on field trips, and even learn how to navigate life's challenges in GLOW Club.

See the imact of your monthly donation.

A full sponsorship costs $2,100 per year ($175 per month). You can sponsor a student as an individual or as a group. Even a donation of $10 per month will give a home at Uhuru Academy, education, and one-on-one Christian Discipleship for 15 days. Plus, it will provide 45 meals.

Join us in changing the life of a young girl with so much potiential!
