Really Really Gorgeous at The Tank has raised $6,251 out of their goal of $6,000
$10 pays for one of our team members to have a meal during tech week. As thanks, we'll shout you out both on social media and in our program.
$20 subsidizes a ticket to REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS for someone who wouldn't otherwise be able to attend. As thanks, we'll write you a short acrostic poem in the style of the play.
Thank you for covering binders, pencils, and the printing of scripts for the team! In addition to everything previously mentioned, we will send you a signed copy of the script once the show opens.
THE PLAY
Enter America’s disgusting and sensational future—everything is underwater, but the TVs still work. Two unremarkable women slosh through life together in a terrible, horrible shack in the middle of nowhere, sharing dreams of stardom and power that will never, ever, ever come true. Except when they do.
Featuring a cast of all women and a creative team that is 50% female (making it a Parity Productions Qualifying Production), REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS asks what it takes to withstand the apocalypse. When the waters rise, the cities drown and celebrity is the only path to survival… will we still need each other? Or will we need each other dead?
REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS is a comedy of grotesque proportions: an intimate journey through a mangled nation, a high-speed collision between dystopia and magic. It’s the end of the world, and it’s weirder than anyone imagined.
WHO WE ARE
Nick Mecikalski (Playwright), Miranda Haymon (Director), and Lucy Powis (Co-Producer) met in 2017 while working at Roundabout Theatre Company as the Artistic Associate, Directing Fellow, and Artistic Apprentice, respectively. That year, REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS was also chosen as a finalist for the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Playwrights Conference--one of 55 finalists chosen from over 1,300 applications.
In 2020, we are thrilled to be producing the world premiere of REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS, which also marks Nick’s New York playwriting debut. We couldn’t think of a more perfect place to be doing so than at The Tank, where Miranda is a Resident Director and where their adaptation of Kafka’s IN THE PENAL COLONY premiered before its 2019 run as part of Next Door @ NYTW.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
The Tank is home for emerging artists, especially for our director Miranda who has been in residence with The Tank since 2018. The Tank is where artists go to make waves in the contemporary theater scene with new, daring pieces of work—we could not think of a better home for REALLY REALLY GORGEOUS. While The Tank provides press, rehearsal space, front of house and more, we still have a ways to go until we are able to fully support the production and our team. We are committed to paying our artists a livable wage that allows for them to prioritize their creativity, especially as emerging artists ready to strut their stuff.
We know that this is a great time of need for our world. There are so many causes, organizations, people, and places that also are asking for your help. We ask that during this time, you consider giving to art. Give to art that sparks discussion and makes room for artists at the nascence of their careers. We are incredibly grateful for any donation, no matter the amount. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with your larger networks by word of mouth or via Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We are so thrilled to be sharing this story with your support.
