Richard's Heart & Sole Run For Emilio

THE STORY

The Emilio Nares Foundation (ENF) was founded in 2003 by Richard and Diane Nares after losing their son Emilio to cancer just shy of his 6th birthday. ENF is a nonprofit organization that helps families navigate their child’s journey through cancer, and support each child's best chance of recovery.

When Emilio was going through his cancer treatment in Boston, he saw the Boston marathon runners training just outside his hospital room. Richard made a promise to Emilio that if he could be strong in his fight, Richard could find the strength to run the Boston marathon. Richard kept that promise, and has since run the Boston marathon three times and in 2013 Richard ran 700 miles across California and raised over $200,000 to support ENF’s programs through his runs. 

Drum roll please... 

On June 4th, Richard started running from SEATTLE to SAN DIEGO stopping at a total of 9 children's hospitals along his route to raise funds and interest in ENF programs as we prepare for our expansion!

Each pediatric children's hospital received Emilio's Loving Tabs shirts as a special gift. Emilio's Loving Tabs are shirts with snaps on the shoulder and sleeve to facilitate access to chemotherapy for children with cancer. The breathable shirts provide a sense of normalcy so children don’t have to take off or lift a shirt to receive treatment. A game changer for kids, parents, and hospital staff!

• - Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital  - Friday, August 3rd
  
• - UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital  -  Friday, August 10th            
  
• - Children's Hospital of Los Angeles - Friday, August 10th          
  
• - Children's Hospital of Orange County - Tuesday, August 14th
  
• - Rady Children's Hospital - special celebration Friday, August 17th @10am
• - Victory Lap Celebrated at Liberty Station on Sunday, August 19th @ 10am!
