Invest in Literacy and Enrich Summer Experiences
Prince William Public Libraries’ Summer Reading program will “Color Our World” this year as we welcome readers of all ages to enjoy reading and all that our program has to offer.
Research has proven the importance of reading during the long summer break. Reading as few as four books can help students maintain – and even increase – their reading skills.
This year, Summer Reading is even more important as we strive to provide support, resources, and incentives to help children improve their reading skills. According to the HMH Growth Assessment, many young readers in Prince William County are reading below grade level (PWCS, 2025).
Library programs play a key role in children’s literacy by providing access to books and encouraging reading for fun. Last year, Summer Reading engaged over 6,000 children and young adults. View the 2024 Summer Reading Sponsor Report for statistics and photos.
Every year, Summer Reading has a different theme. The 2025 Summer Reading program theme is “Color Our World,” and the program will take place from June 16 to August 17 at all PWPL branches.
Why Do We Need Your Help?
Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) does not use the Prince William County budget for Summer Reading. The program is fully funded by corporate and community sponsorships and grants.
Monetary donations to the Prince William Library Foundation help PWPL bring quality programs and performers to libraries, purchase books to be donated to young readers, and perform effective community outreach.
In-kind donations such as coupons and gift cards for products and services to area businesses encourage participation and offer incentives for children and young adults to nurture a love of reading and complete fun and engaging program challenges.
As a sponsor of the 2025 Summer Reading program,
