Support Robert Deaton Heal has raised $10 out of their goal of $12,360
My name is Robert Wesley Deaton. I'm a combat veteran and a single
father to my disabled daughter, Ava. Despite being 100% disabled from
the VA, the financial burdens from Ava's care and homeschooling have
made it challenging to manage my severe back injury, which I've
struggled with for 20 years.
Ava was born with a missing chromosome, leading to multiple birth defects, including the need for open-heart surgery at just two years old. Her care, combined with homeschooling and private education, has put a significant strain on our finances. We also rely on homeopathic health treatments that insurance doesn’t cover, further adding to our financial challenges.
My back injury started at the end of basic training. I was tasked with returning a 240B machine gun during a field exercise, and when our drill sergeant hit a speed bump at high speed, I was thrown up and down, causing excruciating pain. I pushed through it, thinking it would heal, but after Iraq and months of being a gunner, the pain worsened. I was eventually diagnosed with several herniated discs, and one of my vertebrae had started to turn dark. The doctor told me that I wouldn’t be able to walk past 35 without high-risk surgery, which could lead to paralysis.
Over the years, I tried everything to manage the pain—yoga, chiropractic care, inversion therapy, diet changes, ice baths, and saunas. These methods provided temporary relief, but any physical activity would aggravate my back. In 2020, a hiking incident left me almost bedridden, barely able to use the bathroom. This period coincided with my divorce, making it the worst time in my life. I lost feeling in my right glute and down my leg, and couldn’t stretch or adjust my back. With the help of PRP treatment and a retired VA doctor who provided free glucosamine shots, I managed to get some relief, but I still suffer from severe flare-ups.
I’ve been trying to pay off essential expenses and even considered a loan against my truck to cover the cost of stem cell therapy, but it’s more than I can afford. It’s difficult for me to ask for financial help, but I desperately need stem cell treatment to improve my quality of life and continue caring for Ava.
