WE'RE PROUD AND HONORED TO BE AN OFFICIAL CHARITY PARTNER OF THE 2022 TCS NYC MARATHON!
RACE RECAP:
What an AMAZING day it was on 11/6/22 when our team of 12 absolute rockstar runners all ran a very muggy & emotional 26.2 miles that was the 51st running of The TCS NYC Marathon!
See all the pics from race day on FB HERE, on our Google Drive HERE, and to watch a video of all the pics, click HERE.
We’re so beyond grateful for all of our runners who each put their entire 💚 and soul (and 👟’s) into the past 6 months of grueling training and dedicated & passionate fundraising to support our ability to provide essential equipment to individuals living with ALS now while advancing our critical ALS research towards a cure for the disease that took away their hero’s. We had 2 “mini teams” that made up our united team of 12 and how incredible it was to see these 12 come together, separate sets of families in the beginning and ending up as 1 family at the finish line, exactly what ALS ONE is all about - people coming together to make the world of ALS a better place while supporting all who have been or are impacted now.
Team Kellster (Led by Joanie Feimer & Theresa Flanigan, along w/Katie Armstrong, JoJo Carlton, Kristen Corral, Theresa’s kids - Caitlin, John, & Kristin Flanagan, Kelly Monahan, & Katie Mae Sullivan) all ran in memory of John Kelly, of Breezy Point NY, who lost his battle to ALS at 63 in 2018 after leading an incredible life, inspiring all around him to be the best they could be both physically and emotionally his entire life;
and Team Tay (Preston Barnes & his wife, Emily Joye Barnes), ran in memory of Preston’s mom/Emily’s mother-in-law, Terri Barnes, of Montgomery, AL who was lost to ALS just 2 mos ago at age 71 after being the cherished and most loving mom to her entire family and always going out of her way to make everything special for them and absolutely everyone around her.
John & Terri and all impacted by ALS are in our hearts and top of mind as we work hard to make ALS DONE!
We have immense gratitude for all of our teammates, donors, the NYRR & all who made our team & the TCS NYC Marathon happen, and our fantastic post-race party so much fun! In addition to our team & all above, we’d also like to thank Janine Kelly, Shelley English, & Tim Feimer for their support & friendship.
Our NYC Marathon Team will be raising much-needed funds to help further the important work of our world-leading partnership of doctors, researchers and care providers who have united to expedite critical research towards a cure for ALS while simultaneously improving the care and quality of life for so many individuals who are currently living with the disease.
Your donation, large or small, will help to advance promising studies through the clinical trial pipeline which we hope will lead to viable treatments for the currently incurable and terrifying disease. A significant portion of your funds are also used to provide essential equipment and care resources to individuals living with ALS now - items such as lifts, ramps, and wheelchairs, among others, which are often not covered by insurance and are so deperately needed to help those with ALS live their best life while navigating the cruel complexities of the disease.
ALS is a progressive, neurodegenerative disease that, although thought upon as "rare", impacts people at an alarming rate:
Every 90 minutes, someone gets diagnosed with the disease and in that same timeframe, someone else loses their battle to the disease - typically within just two and a half to five years after diagnosis. ALS is a disease that is roughly 90% sporadic, meaning anyone can get it, and 10% genetic, meaning that it was passed down from someone in the family by a mutated gene.
There has never been a time in history where there has been more hope on the ALS horizon and with your support, that beam of light will only get brighter.
ALS ONE is a non-profit 501c3 organization (EIN# 47-4984263), and your donation is fully tax-deductibe.
Your support will have a tremendous impact and we are profoundly grateful.
