Why I Lead has raised $66,758 out of their goal of $100,000
Join us in ensuring our girls’ power is seen, supported, and celebrated!
$1,000 provides four stipends for girls to participate in our youth-led work, to ensure they know that their lived experience and time is valued.
$500 funds our multi-day training for one teacher to learn Girls Leadership’s signature approach to creating communities of belonging.
Why I Lead
Why do you lead? It’s a question we posed to our Girls Leadership community, and their answers gave us the inspiration, courage, and determination we need in this moment. Girls’ leadership has never been more important, and it has never been under greater threat in our lifetimes, especially for the most marginalized girls. If you believe that girls share your same right to leadership, to building the skills that will make her effective, to being seen as a leader, and for being celebrated for being the most powerful version of herself, then invest in our mission today.
Your donation of any amount is critical for creating lasting change. Study after study shows us that when girls lead, they often aren't seen as leaders. They are seen as too aggressive, or too quiet, or too empathetic, or lacking gravitas. That is why our approach at Girls Leadership is to work with the adults in girls’ lives, so that we can create environments where the leadership of all girls is seen, embraced and cultivated. But we can’t create those environments without you.
“Our girls and gender-expansive youth are more ready than ever to step into leadership. All they need is for us—as educators, mentors, and advocates—to recognize and support all of the identities, backgrounds, and experiences that inform their strength and their power.”
—Qian Julie Wang
