Director, Quality Engineering

Classy's Product Technology team is hiring a Director of Quality to inspire a team of engineers to continue quality as a prime directive across engineering. The ideal candidate is an industry veteran who has built multi dimensional quality control systems, incorporating both cutting edge and traditional standards of test engineering. They are adept with people management and experienced with bringing solutions spanning multi-functional teams to market. 

We're looking for a leader who is passionate about technology, quality, and innovation in testing. Bring your expertise in quality and testing of mature SaaS systems to drive quality beyond common workflows to address edge cases around scalability and high volume transaction load. Advance the “shift-left” paradigm of software testing standards at Classy and identify opportunities for improvement across all teams.

What you’ll do:

  • Foster a Quality engineering system and culture across all cross functional teams.
  • Expand and support ongoing test engineering initiatives to incorporate highly scalable, repeatable practices of quality control infused into the SDLC.
  • Curate the next generation of load testing standards balancing a build vs buy mindset to advance core capabilities of the software application.
  • Work with engineering managers to reinforce NFRs for every service or component that constitutes the fundraising platform. Partner with Site Reliability teams on a common goal to ensure Service Level Objectives are met.
  • Ensure that software releases delight customers from a quality perspective.
  • Foster an environment of cross-team alignment, cooperation, and decision-making that drives success for the entire organization.
  • Emphasize standards for building industry-leading solutions in an Agile Test-Driven Development, Behavior-Driven Development environment.
  • Recruit and grow all Engineering team members, including training and mentoring new managers and team leads.
  • Communicate KPIs for monitoring and delivering progress against objectives and timelines.
  • Partner with senior management to own and drive core business initiatives.

What you bring (Required):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field of study. Master’s or other advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years managing quality initiatives on multiple platforms including SaaS or PaaS products.
  • 7+ years management experience managing engineering teams on an enterprise SaaS platform.
  • Broad experience architecting enterprise-class, cloud-based systems with deep expertise in building new capabilities in automation testing standards.
  • Experienced in quality and deployment infrastructure. Experience with leading automated and unit testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery platforms, and various testing methodologies.
  • Experience with suites of testing tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, Karate and load testing frameworks such as Gatling, JMeter or others.
  • Thorough understanding of security principles, including what it takes to secure data and how to communicate security concepts to customers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and grow engineering teams that deliver quality products using an agile approach on a predictable timeline.
  • Thorough understanding of what it takes to manage a successful engineering team with experience developing processes to enhance communication, collaboration, and teamwork for onshore and offshore team members.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to make business-oriented tradeoffs, and represent the platform solutions and challenges to a non-technical audience.
  • An innate sense of quality enmeshed with a sharp system engineering skill set, with strong computer science fundamentals.

What would be awesome to have (Preferred):

  • 8+ years of software development experience with distributed teams
  • Experience building PCI compliant systems
  • Experience with AI/ML systems that identify potential bottlenecks and weaknesses of scalability.
