Community Service Walk-a-Thon: October 7th, 2016
Support Village School students in their efforts to help our community
Two hundred Village School students grades 1-8 will embark on their 6th Community Service Walk-a-Thon. Students raise pledges for our healthy kitchen, our garden and eight local, community organizations committed to ecological awareness and education. At a later date, each class pairs with their assigned group for a service project. The pairings include:
1st Grade: Nearby Nature
2nd Grade: Cascade Raptor Center
3rd Grade: Huerto de la Familia
4th Grade: UO Museum of Natural History
5th Grade: Walama Restoration
6th Grade: Food for Lane County Gardens
7th Grade: Whole Earth Nature School
8th Grade: School Garden Project
How does your contribution help?
The average walk-a-thon benefits the organization sponsoring the event or a large nonprofit organization. The Village School Community Service Walk-a-Thon differs in that it supports local organizations working to improve conditions right here, in our community. Students further the efforts of these groups by raising funds and conducting a service project. Proceeds also support the Village School garden and healthy kitchen which prepares meals on site with mostly locally sourced and organic ingredients.
