101 To Cure Type One
What is the 101 challenge?
Those living everyday with type one diabetes always have to do just a little bit more! They can’t eat food without counting carbs and giving themselves insulin. They have to always have supplies with them in the event of high or low blood sugar. When exercising, they have to be prepared in case their blood sugar drops. Parents of children with type one have to check their child’s blood sugar while they sleep. Diabetics have to endure thousands of needle injections to keep them alive. Type one diabetes is not easy. Neither is completing 101 miles.
Let’s go the distance to support type one diabetics by completing this challenge May 1st - June 13th.
Walk, run, ride a bike... just get moving!
All ages and abilities are welcome.
We encourage you to invite family and friends to join you in this event-everyone likes a little competition!! Adults aim for 101 miles, children under 12 aim for 50. If you choose to bike we challenge you to complete 303 miles. All particpaants will receive a 101 Challenge t-shirt.
About the CDP
The CDP is working to functionally cure diabetes by transplanting insulin-producing islet cells into diabetic patients, which would reduce or eliminate the need for multiple exogenous insulin injections daily and provide better control of blood glucose levels. Our mission is to develop and perfect this procedure in the shortest time possible, without the need for immunosuppressive drugs. Eliminating the use of immunosuppressive drugs will make the procedure more affordable, reduce side effects, and allow the procedure to serve a broader patient population.
The Chicago Diabetes Project is performing late stage critical experiments that are yielding promising results. Dr. Jose Oberholzer, Founder of the Chicago Diabetes Project, along with other CDP collaborators strongly believe that the scientific community has all the necessary components to make cell-based therapy an option for millions of diabetic patients, except one. To eradicate diabetes, our need for funding is critical.
You can make a difference for those living with T1D!
Support the CDP by participating in the challenge or making a donation. 100% of funds rasied goes directly to research.
To particpate in the 101 challenge you can be whereever you are, just get moving to support those living with T1D.
