Why is This Challenge Important to Us?

You may be wondering what rappelling down a skyscraper has to do with Special Olympics, the answer is simple. If you are a person with intellectual disabilities, you encounter adversities daily. You must have courage to try something that doesn’t come easily to you. Our athletes bravely face challenges on the field, in the pool and on the court. They are the inspiration for this event. We are asking our participants to step into the shoes of our athletes. Take your support for Special Olympics Arizona to new heights and face your fears. It takes the same amount of courage to go “over the edge” as it does for individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports.

COURAGE MATCHING COURAGE

Support Special Olympics Arizona and register for your chance to rappel down 27 stories of the CityScape building in downtown Phoenix. We sold out in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023 and space is limited for this thrilling and inspiring way to support Special Olympics Arizona. Once registered, participants are guaranteed a rappel spot as long as they rasie awarness by fundriasing a minimum of $1000. Why $1000? Because that is the cost to support two athletes for an entire year at Special Olympics Arizona! No prior ropes experience is necessary.

To raise the funds, participants are set up with their very own personal fundraising website that they use to solicit contributions for their heroic fundraising adventure from family, friends and coworkers. Only those that reach the fundraising minimum will be allowed to rappel. All participants must be at goal by November 12th in order to be assigned a preferred rappel spot. Those not at goal by November 12th, will automatically be assign a remaining time slot. Anyone that has not reached the minimum goal of $1,000 per person will be responsible for the remaining amount before rappelling.

Before you know it, you’ll be going Over the Edge!

Adults over the age of 18 or Children with a guardian consent waiver and between 100- 300 lbs with a desire to support a worthy cause and enough courage to step Over the Edge are welcome.
