St. Francis Neighborhood Center (2405 Linden Ave, Baltimore, MD 21217)

Workshop 4: Shaping the Future of Our Archive

Monday, March 24th, 2025 (6:30-8 PM)

Our organization is exploring a partnership with the Maryland State Archives that would allow us to expand our community data archive and better preserve our collective history. This collaboration would provide professional archival support, wider access to our community's stories, and long-term preservation of our shared heritage. Before finalizing any agreements, we want to ensure that your rights and wishes regarding your personal materials are respected and protected.

We're organizing a community discussion focused on:

  • How your contributed materials would be stored, shared, and credited
  • Copyright considerations and your continued ownership of your content
  • The types of uses that would be permitted (educational, promotional, online)
  • What you would receive in return for sharing your materials
  • Privacy safeguards and options for sensitive content

If you're interested in participating but cannot attend at these times, please let us know your availability so we can try to accommodate as many community members as possible!

This archive belongs to all of us. Your input will directly shape the agreements and policies we develop, ensuring they reflect our community's values and protect your intellectual property. We are committed to creating a collaborative archiving process that empowers rather than exploits.

Workshop 3: Community Show & Tell

Thursday, January 16th, 2025 (6:30-8 PM)

Got old photos of 21217 gathering dust? Let's change that. We're hosting a free digitizing night at St. Francis Neighborhood Center, complete with wine and charcuterie.

Bring up to five items that tell your West Baltimore story - whether they're family photos, newspaper clippings, or cherished documents.

We'll help you preserve them while you share their stories with neighbors. Your memories matter here!

Workshop 2: Community Open Mic

Monday, December 2nd, 2024 (6:30-8 PM)

Join us in-person at St. Francis Neighborhood Center for "Our Stories, Our History" - a community open mic event where YOUR memories help tell OUR story!

Bring an item that represents your connection to our community - a photograph, newspaper clipping, family heirloom, or any meaningful object. Share your piece of history and be part of preserving our neighborhood's legacy.

Every story matters. Every memory counts. Help us build our Community Data Hub!

Wine and charcuterie will be provided to attendees!

Workshop 1: Reviewing the Community Data Hub

Join us for the inaugural session of our workshop series focused on Black data, ownership, and community archives! In this first workshop, we will delve into the Community Data Hub, a digital chronicle dedicated to preserving the legacy of Reservoir Hill and Penn North. Launched in June, the Hub is intended to be instrumental in capturing the stories, history, and cultural heritage of our community.

This workshop provides an opportunity for community members to share their thoughts, questions, and concerns about the Community Data Hub. Your feedback is crucial in ensuring that the Hub continues to serve as a valuable resource for our community. Come and be a part of the conversation as we discuss how the Hub can evolve to better meet the needs and aspirations of Reservoir Hill and Penn North residents.

This workshop will be held virtually via Zoom!
