About the Event

Led by choreographer Savannah Dunn, Free Play Movement Workshops bring professional, pre-professional, and advanced/intermediate contemporary dancers together to experiment and create. The goal of these workshops is to build community while offering a platform for rigorous movement research without performance expectations.

Each workshop begins with a 30-minute contemporary warm-up leading into a series of guided improvisational exercises, movement games, and phrase creation. Together, Savannah and workshop participants will generate solo, partnering, and group work and collaborate to refine movement and experiment with composition.

Dancers should come prepared to both create movement and engage in discussion. All movement creation will be guided and dancers without choreographic process experience are highly encouraged to join! At the end of each session, selections from the workshop will be filmed for record keeping and sharing on social media.

Free Play Movement Workshops at Urbanity are supported through The Boston Foundation’s “Next Steps” grant program and are offered FREE to all participants!
