Lid I-5 Study Area Walking Tour – Weeknight
About the Event
The Seattle planning office is embarking on a major feasibility study for lidding the central segment of Interstate 5. Back by popular demand, the Lid I-5 Steering Committee, the volunteer citizens who have led the initiative to this point, invite you to experience the dreadful freeway canyon firsthand and hear the latest project details. You'll see how Seattle's unique topography and the freeway configuration will influence design, and walk through existing lids at Freeway Park and the Convention Center.
The possibilities are almost endless: while regional traffic keeps moving, we can develop 20 acres of public airspace into productive uses like parks, affordable housing, schools, and other critical infrastructure for our most populous and vibrant neighborhoods.
Whether you're an ardent supporter, a newcomer, or a skeptic, you'll benefit from learning more about Seattle's next civic endeavor.
Join us rain or shine. Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are encouraged. This walk is approximately 1.25 miles and includes staircases and moderate hillclimbs.
This tour is free but our continued advocacy work depends on volunteer efforts. Donations of $10 per person or more are encouraged to support our costs for community events, outreach materials, and professional consulting. Your contribution will sustain our efforts for the years to come!
