About the Campaign

The 9th Annual Lake County 2025 Ruck March is a 22 Day Challenge!

LCVFS is once again hosting a ruck march to raise awareness of the estimated 22 veterans who take their own lives each day . . . not just one march, but two.

The 22-kilometer LIVE course will be open to anyone who wants to cover the distance in one day on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Nippersink Preserve in northern Illinois.

Due to last year’s overwhelming success, we are adding an option for anyone who wants to march at their own pace and at the place of their choosing. You can spread out your  march from September 1 to 22, doing as much or as little each day as long as you complete 22 kilometers by September 22.

You can walk, run, swim, bike – your choice. This march can be completed anywhere in the world! We just need your online registration and your word that you completed your march.

Beat the Enemy

All funds raised will benefit Lake County Veteran and Family Services, which provides support to address underlying causes of veteran suicide.

Why 22?

In 2013, the VA released a study indicating that 22 veterans were dying by suicide per day. Since then, the number has decreased, but the number 22 has shaped how Americans think about military veterans.

22 has become a rallying cry to raise awareness of suicide among veterans, especially those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ruck Up!

"Ruck" is short for "ruck sack," which refers to backpacks servicemembers sometimes wear. To "ruck up" is to get through a particularly challenging or stressful situation.

So let's get after it! Register to participate, load 22 pounds in your ruck sack, and remember those we've lost.

This year's event will take place at Nippersink Forest Preserve at 900 W. Belvidere Road, Round Lake IL 60073. We will meet at Picnic Shelter C. There are 70+ parking spaces in the parking lot. Registration starts at 0800, and we step off at 0900.

We've raised $8.4K Our Goal $60,000

We're fundraising for the cause to make a difference!

You can help fundraise for the cause once you register. Or just make a donation.

Young Adult Ruck March Participant (17 and under)

$17.00

No one is too young to participate! Ruck marchers 17 and younger can register for $17 and do not have a minimum fundraising goal. Let's show the adults what you can really do to help Lake County Veterans! But, please, always stay safe, walk or ride with adults if you are under 13, and practice safe social distancing. Registration includes a t-shirt that you can pick up at the LCVFS office in Grayslake or at the Ruck registration.

Veteran Marcher

$20.00

Veterans: you know that if you or your family ever need help, the Lake County Veterans and Family Services is here to provide it. We could not provide this assistance without the support of our friends, neighbors, and sponsors. By registering as a veteran marcher, your fees are reduced. You also agree to accept the mission to raise at least $220 from your friends, family, neighbors, and everyone you meet by sending them to your Ruck Up 2025 profile.

Donated Veteran Marcher Registration

$22.00

If you cannot march yourself but want to sponsor a veteran's registration, please choose this option. Veterans that are struggling in their own lives will sacrifice to help a fellow veteran any way they can. There are many veterans that would gladly march but cannot afford the registration fee. You can cover their registration fee + donate $2 in memory of veterans who have lost their final battle. We have a wait list of veterans that want to participate; we will let them know their registration fee has been donated so they can participate in the Ruck March.

Adult Ruck March Participant

$40.00

Your registration includes a t-shirt that you can pick up at the LCVFS office in Grayslake or at Registration at the Ruck itself, and your own Ruck Up 2025 donation page so you can raise money in support of your participation. Spread the word, encourage your friends, family, and social media connections to support your effort, and help the Lake County Veterans and Family Services provide much-needed support for our veterans and families.
