1for3's Walk for Water 5K in support of Palestinian Refugees 2017
Welcome to 1for3's Second Annual WALK FOR WATER 5K
in support of Palestinian Refugees!
Thank you ALL for an Amazing Day! Donations are still being accepted!
We had such a fabulous time last year that we're doing it again! Last year, 217 walkers and over 1000 supporters helped us raise over $65,000! (Watch video from last year's walk above) With that money, we were able to build a cistern in Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem, Palestine, to help alleviate the water crisis there. (See photos below) Now, we are asking you to Water the Seeds of Hope and join us again to walk along the beautiful Charles River for 1for3's Second Annual Walk for Water 5K in support of Palestinian Refugees! We will gather again at the South Plaza @ Kendall Square and walk along Memorial Drive to the Hyatt and back.
Walk start time is 10am Rain or Shine, but arrive early to check in and pick up your T-shirt. (Must register by April 1st to guarantee a T-shirt.) After the walk, stick around South Plaza to enjoy the music and festivities including a discount lunch ticket after the walk provided by one of our sponsors, Aceituna Grill.
Unable to walk? Not going to be in town? We'll miss you but you can still donate to one of our walkers, donate to the cause or create a page to walk WHEREVER you'll be. Please don't let anything stand in the way of supporting our walk. You can also start a Solidarity Walk for Water 5K in your city/town like the people of Detroit, Michigan and Santiago, Chile did last year. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more details and we will "walk" you through it. The choice is yours and it's super easy!

Why should YOU Walk for Water?
Because you CAN! We believe access to clean water is a HUMAN RIGHT; don't you? Unfortunately, the refugees living in the West Bank, Palestine, cannot exercise their right and they are left with only a small percentage of the water that comes from the natural springs on their occupied land. Water is the most basic human necessity and without it, one cannot live. We at 1for3 partner with an incredible organization in Bethlehem, Lajee Center, dedicated to providing refugees cultural, educational, social, and developmental opportunites. In Boston, we work with professors and graduate students from Tufts, MIT and Harvard Universities, as well as water experts, architects, and environmental engineers locally and in Palestine to come up with innovative solutions to help alleviate the problems faced by the water crisis in the West Bank.
Where does the money go?
100% of the money raised from this 5K will directly support Palestinian refugees in the West Bank. Water is the key element through which all of 1for3's programs are able to exist. We are Watering the Seeds of Hope in the form of education, healthcare, food security and other basic human rights. These programs are growing and beginning to bear fruit!
Due to the success of last year's walk and our ongoing fundraising campaigns, we were able to build a rain catchment cistern to serve the ~6000 residents (half under that age of 18) in Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem. The 180cm cistern is now complete thanks to our amazing partners at Lajee who coordinated the effort!
Now that water will become more available, the Seeds of Hope can begin to grow. 1for3 has begun a Community Health Program with our partner on the ground, Lajee Center, and with doctors from Harvard teaching hospitals. Doctors will be traveling to see patients March and May 2017. We have also begun the process of securing a space for a much needed pre-school in Aida camp which will eventually serve over 200 children between the ages of 3-5 who currently have little opportunity for this important stage of development. Funds from this year's walk will go toward this building.
In addition, we will continue funding our successful Environment Unit and water quality/quantity program in Aida and Azzah Camps. We have begun replicating these programs in other refugees camps in the West Bank (Al-Walaja Village and Al-Arroub Refugee Camp) with the hope to expand to 12 refugee camps in total. This growth affects our impact exponentially! Check out this video to see 3 of our successful programs in action: Roof top gardens, Community Health Program and our water-testing with Tufts WSSS graduate students!
