On March 17, 2017, Rí Rá Irish Pub will kick off St. Patrick’s Day with their annual plunge at the East End Beach in Portland in order to raise funds for the Portland Firefighters Children’s Burns Foundation. A Rí Rá Portland tradition now for the last 15 years, the brave will face the cold and jump into the ice cold waters at the East End Beach at 5.30am!

Rí Rá will then open its doors from 6am-7am for a complimentary St. Patrick’s Day Irish Breakfast for those jumpers who want to warm up after the plunge. A live auction and raffle will begin at 7am. An award ceremony will take place directly after the raffle. Trophies will be awarded to the top individual person that raises the most money, and a second for team trophy. The top winner will win the official Plunge Cup with their business or team name!

About Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation

The Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation assists with treatment expenses beyond insurance coverage, home modifications to deal with new limitations, support groups and social events with other burn survivors or family members.

The organization intends to be a resource for hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and fire departments that work and have contact with burn victims.

We will work to establish a network of volunteers, inside and outside the Local 740 and the Fire Department, to help accomplish the Foundation’s projects.

Annually we will host a winter burn survivors camp for children 11 to 17 years old. There is no cost to the camper or their family.

In order to achieve it's goals, the Foundation will raise money through donations, grants and future fund-raisers. The Foundation operates strictly on a volunteer level; no salaried positions exist within the foundation. We are always in the process of raising funds and donations are welcomed.

Each year we offer to send Maine burn survivors, from the ages of 8 to 17, to Children’s Burn Camp in Connecticut. The Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation covers transportation and will make a donation in the name of the camper to Children's Burn Camp.
