SAY Sí presents its 11th annual Muertitos Fest celebrating art, life and death. Muertitos Fest honors the tradition that ties our city to Mexico and commemorates the rich Mexican-American culture of San Antonio. With this year’s theme, “Tierra y Libertad,” artwork, altars and performances will look back to the Mexican Revolution. Muertitos Fest is one of San Antonio’s most comprehensive Día de los Muertos celebrations, providing educational context to the important holiday with three days of unique cultural happenings including: a multidisciplinary showcase of student Día de los Muertos art, themed altars to honor the departed, family folk art workshops, food booths, an artisan mercado as well as live cultural performances highlighting local dancers, musicians and entertainers. This year, SAY Sí will also reveal two large-scale sculptures created in collaboration with Colectivo Ultima Hora, a renowned 6-member team of Mexican artists. These skilled artists travelled from Mexico City this summer for a 2-week residency, working with SAY Sí students to create 12-foot calacas depicting key icons of the Mexican Revolution, Emiliano Zapata and la Adelita also known as a soldadera.
An intimate and high-spirited fiesta where patrons can dine on Mexican delicacies paired with specialty libations. Dance to the expressive sounds of Grupo Frackaso and explore the unique artwork and altars. Join in on our Día de los Muertos costume contest and be the first to purchase traditional crafts in our artisan mercado. Only 100 tickets available!
All events take place at: SAY Sí Central, 1518 South Alamo San Antonio, TX 78204
