LUEWWD XII: Express Yourself, a ladies’ arm-wrestling charity fundraiser, is raising funds for Q.O.R.D.S. to support access to camp for female-identified Durham youth.

LUEWWD XII is happening on Saturday, April 25th, 2015 at Social Games and Brews (1007 W Main Street in Durham). Marilyn Manho will be hosting. Plus, special guest Vivica C. Coxx will be on stage to say hello and to perform! Doors open at 7:30 and the event starts at 9:00 (we recommend getting there no later than 8:30 though). General admission costs $5. Keep up with event details on Facebook or Twitter.

Sign up to volunteer here or get in touch with us about event and contestant sponsorship opportunities.

Each of the 8 arm-wrestlers is vying for the title of Madame Moneymaker, awarded to the contestants who raises the most funds between now and the end of the April 25th event. Click on a fundraising team for your favorite wrestler(s) and donate to their campaign for top fundraiser! You could also set up an individual fundraising page to support your favorite wrestler.

What is Q.O.R.D.S.?

Q.O.R.D.S. Mission

By empowering Southern queer youth and building community through music, QORDS is a vehicle for expressing gender and sexuality, and harbors an environment of self-discovery and social change.

Q.O.R.D.S. Core Values

We are committed to promoting the creativity, confidence, leadership, and prosperity of southern youth queers. We recognize that gender and sexuality are multidimensional concepts that intersect with issues including, but not limited to, institutions, race, class, and heritage. We aim to nurture intersectional spaces and claim music as a vehicle of queer empowerment.

What is LUEWWD?

LUEWWD stands for League of Upper Extremity Wrestling Women of Durham. LUEWWD strives to improve opportunities for women and girls through hosting creative community-based women’s arm wrestling competitions to raise funds for organizations supporting women and girls in Durham. Since 2010, close to $70,000 has been raised through ladies’ arm-wrestling fundraisers. More info at

How it works:

  • 8 contestants find 4 friends to make their entourage. They all dress up in a themed costume
  • At the actual event, the entourage moves through the crowd heckling for ‘votes’ (aka. MONEY!) from the audience
  • Contestants arm-wrestle 3 rounds in a tournament-style bracket to become the LUEWWD Champion
  • The contestant who raises the most money (before and during the event) is awarded Madame Moneymaker. To claim that title, your favorite contestant needs your help!
  • Judges pick the contestant and entourage with the best costume/character and deem her Durham Diva
  • Contestants who do not win their first match are entered into the Loser’s Bracket to compete for the Queen of the Losers title
  • Most of the time the crowd gets bold and offers money for a chance to arm wrestle contestants, judges, their friends, spouses, etc. Since the point of the event is to raise money LUEWWD certainly encourage this behavior…but they’re not cheap!
  • All proceeds from LUEWWD XII: Express Yourself will be donated to Q.O.R.D.S. Tuition for camp this year is $650 per individual.
