Staci Mannella has astounding vision although she is partially sighted. The 15-year-old member of the U.S. Paralympics Alpine Skiing National Team is unable to see the beauty of the mountain, the terrain of the run or the gates through which she must turn. Yet Staci sees herself representing the United States in the 2014 Winter Paralympic Games, to be held March 7-16, 2014, in Sochi, Russia. And she sees herself crossing the finish line.
Staci was born with achromatopsia, a congenital condition that seriously limits her visual acuity to three feet and causes extreme sensitivity to light. She sees virtually nothing when on the mountain and skis in radio contact with a guide.
Staci does not fear what she cannot see and drives toward what she envisions. She stands at the starting gate of a magnificent run. Join her.
