"Go to the people.  Live with them.  Learn from them.  Love them.  Start with what they know.  Build with what they have.  But with the best leaders, when the work is done, the task accomplished, the people will say ‘We have done this ourselves’.” -Lao Tzu

Mama Hope shares my passion for helping people to help themselves through sustainable, community driven development.  Mama Hope has developed an excellent model that is delivering results all over Africa.  How?  1.  Listen to local communities.  2.  Connect funds through awareness.  3.  Enable sustainable projects.

James and Beatrice of the Tanzanian Children's Concern (TCC) had a dream over 10 years ago to provide education for the poorest and most vulnerable children in the Kilimanjaro region, many of whom are orphans or have one or more parent living with HIV/AIDS.  They started a school under a tree in 2003 and partnered with Mama Hope in 2009.  Together they have transformed that classroom under a tree into a thriving school with 9 classrooms, 15 teachers,  300 students, a nursery school, food security garden which feeds all children and teachers, a boarding home and a solar powered computer lab!  The dreams of James and Beatrice and the entire community are now a reality but we have a couple more projects to complete in order for St. Timothy’s to become 100% self-sufficient, and no longer rely on outside aid.

In September I will travel to Moshi, Tanzania, where I will work with James and Beatrice to initiate the building of a Community Center/Dining Hall at St. Timothy’s School.  This new structure will act as the heart and soul for the community providing a space for the children to eat meals together as well as for the community to gather for meetings, trainings, events and celebrations.  Adding the dining hall will improve the environment at the school and its completion will attract more paying students which in turn will offer more opportunities for more vulnerable children to attend for free (for every 2 paying students, one vulnerable child attends for free).  Additionally, event rentals of the Community Center will generate income for the school, allowing for true sustainability and the school to flourish.

You may participate with me by investing in the dining hall/community center so that St. Tim's may continue to offer quality education in their community for generations to come.  I’ve set a goal to raise $20,000 for this project.  100% of donations will go directly to the building of the Community Center and are tax deductible.  Contirbuting on this site is fast, easy and secure.
