My name is Eliyahu Ohanon. My high school recommended that I check into several pre-army academies before enlisting in the army, and I looked into all of them. After one Shabbat in Bet El, I felt at home. The rabbis exuded so much warmth, joyfulness and friendliness that I decided to stay.

I am able to discuss anything openly with the Rabbis, which has helped me to get my head straight about a lot of things I was concerned about.. There is no pressure to attend classes, and during the first month, I hardly went. But soon, I felt a strong desire to take advantage of all that was being offered. When no one was telling me that I have to, I realized that I really wanted to.

Before I came to the academy, I used to argue a lot, or answer back. I felt I could win any argument with attitude. In Bet El, I am learning to work out my issues in a healthier way. I see that I can make a choice about my actions and responses. The rabbis are like people I can trust and the other guys are like brothers who help keep me in line.

The IDF Prep Academy is simply a fantastic place that is helping all of use strengthen our willpower and build our dreams along the way. In addition, we are all getting stronger physically with the great gym they have and those grueling outdoor hikes! Whereas I used to back away from challenges, here, each day, I look forward to meeting and defeating them.

A three day bike trek in the Golan with my brothers, bring it on baby!!

Help the academy by sponsoring us on our Israel Cadet Trek. Thanks!
