Joan and Fillmore McPherson have lived in Madison for 37 years. Art has occupied much of that time for Joan, as a watercolor instructor, a board member and past president of the Madison Art Society, a monitor of Madison's Wednesday Watercolor Group (Recreation Center program) and an enthusiastic watercolor artist. Joan supports Act II Thrift Shop, serves on the board of directors of the condo where they live and plays tennis at the Madison Racquet and Swim Club. Fillmore has been active in the community and in town politics. He was vice president of the Madison Land Conservation Trust and is still on that board. He served as Boy Scout Troop 491 chairman. Fillmore was Madison's First Selectman from 2009 to 2015. He has been delivering Meals on Wheels for 15 years. Joan and Fillmore enjoy traveling to visit their three children and three grandchildren in various parts of the country.

"We are dancing for the cause because we are huge fans of Raise the Roof.  This amazing effort has made a difference in the lives of those for whom houses are constructed and in the lives of those who get to help create new homes. We did not have to think very long before accepting the challenge of Dancing for the Cause. It is a steep learning curve for couch potatoes like us but we look forward to doing our ballroom best on October 28!"
