Bernadette Gazzo Welsh is an independent insurance agent working with the Contessa Insurance Agency of North Haven.  Born and raised in the NYC/Long Island area, she has lived in Connecticut for the past 36 years with her husband, Bill Welsh. She has three children and two grandsons.  She is an active member of the Spring Glen Church which is part of the United Church of Christ in Hamden.  She has appeared in many productions of the theater arts group associated with the church along with her dancing partner, Phil Ross.  She is on the board of directors of New Reach, a charity that helps the homeless find shelter and support. Her most recent venture is producing a local TV show entitled “Community Works” at the North Haven TV station.  A program about Raise the Roof's Gala of Stars: Dancing for the Cause will be taped in September and shown on many stations throughout the Shoreline.

She is dancing to help support the Habitat for Humanity efforts of Raise the Roof because it is simply the right thing to do. Anything we do that helps end the cycle of poverty in our state is of the utmost importance.  When neighbors help neighbors, everybody benefits.

Philip Ross has been married to Amy Estabrook for nearly 30 years. They have two children, Ben, 28, and Chelsea, 25, who recently became engaged. Philip is principal of Philip Ross Architects: a small firm which began in 2010 and works on high-end commercial and residential projects. At present, the firm is working on a tennis and platform tennis facility in Stamford, CT.

Philip is an avid platform tennis player. He enjoys traveling at least once a year to different places in Europe, the U.S. and the Caribbean. Last year, he and his family flew to Scotland, especially to see the Ross castle, Balnagown, in the Highlands near Tain, Edinburgh, and the Isle of Mull.

Philip has been active in Spring Glen Church for many years as a deacon, mentor, teacher, and trustee. He is also a member of the Theater Arts Ministry where he has had roles in eight plays, joined by his dance partner, Bernadette, in several of those.

Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful program. As an apprentice architect, Philip did some pro bono work for them under the tutelage of the architect Frank Chapman. Philip took dancing lessons many years ago in fifth through eighth grade from Mr. Whitten at the New Haven Lawn Club. The skills he learned there have been forgotten. His goal is to rekindle those lost skills as well as be a great dancer for his daughter on her wedding day.
