Alistair Sweeney:

Alistair recently relocated to Connecticut from New Zealand to be with his fiancée Rachael. He served 11 years in the New Zealand Army as an Infantry Officer. As part of his military service, he participated in active duty deployments to Afghanistan and East Timor.

Whilst in the military, Alistair found yoga as a great way to heal his body after years of harsh physical activity playing rugby union and training for military operations. He decided to undertake his yoga teacher training after observing firsthand the unfortunate difficulties associated with returning service men and women.

Alistair started a free yoga class in Madison for veterans, military and first responders (police, firefighters and EMT) as well as their families.Through his business ConFITdence (www.confitdence.com), he shares yoga and meditation with the Connecticut Shoreline at yoga studios and gyms in the local community. He believes that every person can benefit from the physical and mental health benefits associated with a regular yoga and meditation practice.

Alistair also proudly volunteers with the North Madison Volunteer Fire Service and American Red Cross Disaster Assistance Team. With no previous dancing experience, Alistair looks forward to the challenge of learning something new and raising funds for a worthy cause.

Rachael McNerney

Rachael is from Connecticut. She attended Madison’s Daniel Hand High School and was an active member of the Daniel Hand Swimming and Diving team and Show Choir group, VIBE. She attended James Madison University in Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics, a concentration in European Business (from Universiteit Antwerpen) and a certificate of Environmenal Sustainability.

With a passion for adventure, Rachael has travelled the world to over 30 different countries. Rachael and Alistair first met each other on the Greek island of Corfu in the Mediterranean.

Rachael is a professional organizer. Her business, Streamline Organization (www.streamorg.com),  helps businesses improve operational efficiency with simplified processes and enhanced organizational systems.

Rachael enjoys volunteering. She witnessed firsthand the power of providing a home to those in need while working as an international trip leader for a service adventure company in Tortola, the British Virgin Islands. She also volunteered in New Zealand with Red Cross Refugee Services and currently volunteers with SCORE (a nonprofit that provides resources to entreprenurs). She is excited for the opportunity to dance again and to raise funds to help a family feel at home.
