My Personal Story...

In September 2003, my life was forever changed.  To this day I can still vividly remember getting the news that my Dad was diagnosed with cancer.  I just so happened to be home that weekend from college.  My Dad had been sick and my Mom decided to take him to the emrgency room.  A few hours later, she called the family to the Hospital where the doctor told us he had Acute Myelogenous Leukemia and needed to be transported immediately to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.  We were told that if we had waited a few more days to bring him in, he would not have made it till the end of the week.

His fight with cancer was not an easy one...as if there is such a thing; nonetheless, he put up a good fight.  After his first diagnosis, he relapsed 2 more times.  Throughout the course of the 3 years he had several complications and setbacks, along with the stress of being temporarily uprooted from home 4-6 months at a time. Due to his type of Leukemia, he had to have all of his treatments in San Antonio.  However, through it all he handled it all like a champ.  He always managed to have a sense of humor and a positive attitude.  He told my mom, doctors and nurses that he was determined to see me graduate from college...and he did.  I gradauted in December 2005 and he passed away a month later, January 2006.

When I heard about The Flatwater Foundation, I knew immediately that I wanted to support this non-profit organization.  Our family received so much love and support from our community in San Angelo and Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.  Now I have the opportunity to pay it foward.

On June 12, I will be stand-up paddle boarding 21 miles on the Colorado River to raise money for a cause that is so close to my heart! So many people are affected by one cancer diagnosis, and I want to help provide access to mental health support for those in need.

Help me support The Flatwater Foundation by making a donation. Your donation will provide access to mental health care for individuals and families touched by a cancer diagnosis that would otherwise not be able to get the care they need. I am working to raise at least $2,000 to embark on this 21-mile journey to take a stand, won't you please consider sponsoring one of my 21 miles with a donation? This will ensure we meet our goal, and will help so many in need!

The process is fast, easy, and secure. I truly appreciate any support you can provide, and we hope you can celebrate with us all on June 12th, at the LCRA Lawn at Tom Miller Dam (adjacent to Hula Hut). Learn more at tylersdtc.com

If you can’t make a donation at this point, help me reach my goal by sharing this page on Facebook and Twitter. Or, even better, send an e-mail to friends you think might be interested in contributing and include a link to my page!

Thanks so much for your generosity!
