Derek & Logan have been married since May 2010, and throughout their relationship, there has always been an uninvited third party, Derek's chronic illness: Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis/Ulcerative Colitis

On April 14, 2014 Logan gave Derek 60% of her liver to help treat his disease after his liver began to fail. The initial transplant was a huge success, Derek felt so great he threatened to enter a midnight lunge competition with the nurses on the 6th floor. 

But the Little Liver That Could just couldn't keep up with Derek. He was re-listed for transplant 7 days after his first surgery and received a second gift of life on May 13th from a donor who had passed away. 

Since the moment he left the hospital...

Derek has devoted himself to being the healthiest person he can be, running multiple half-marathons

hiking all of New Hampshire's 4000 footers and hiking Aspen mountain just 7 months after his 2nd transplant alongside Chris Klug (fellow PSCer and liver transplant recipient) in honor of the Chris Klug Foundation, and their annual fundraiser, Summit for Life.

Through it all, Logan has just tried to keep up with the healthy, energetic person she knew was inside him all along. 

This year Derek is competing in the 5k, the 800m, and the 1500m. 

Logan is competing in the 100m, the 200m, as well as the 50yd breaststroke, the 50yd freestyle, and the 100yd freestyle.
