I've been a mentor for 3 years in both Boston and New York and a member of the Executive Committee in New York and I've seen first hand the immense benefit Minds Matter has provided to the students. The New York Minds Matter program is comprised of 237 students whose families on average make less than $26,000 per year. These students spend every Saturday of the academic year at Minds Matter to take SAT prep classes and writing courses and prepare them for college.  

Anyone who knows me, knows I can talk for hours on the virtues of Minds Matter. Both my mentees in Boston and New York have been extremely intelligent and driven with big personalities (and teach me way more about sports than I would ever know). I can't wait to see where hard works takes both my mentees in their college journey and beyond, and I firmly believe Minds Matter will provide them with opportunities they would not have had otherwise.

My New York mentee is a first generation Junior from the Bronx who travels well over an hour each way on the subway every Saturday for Minds Matter, goes to the Bloomberg offices during the school week to learn computer coding, has a full AP course load, is on the wrestling and track team, all while being a typical high schooler. 

As for the organization, Minds Matter works.  Every Saturday, despite snowfall or stalled F trains, 600+ volunteers and 237 low income, high achieving students show up and do the hard work of building a better future.

• 100% of our graduates are accepted to a 4-year college
• More than 80% of our students have been accepted to top-tier colleges, including schools like Brown, Cornell, Notre Dame, and Stanford.
• Our students spend over 600 hours at Minds Matter—almost an entire extra semester of high school!
