Track #1: Hippotherapy 101 - Are you ready? (12:00 - 4:00 pm)
Who: OTR, COTA, PT, PTA, Speech Therapist, Therapeutic Riding Instructors or Program Administrators that are interested incorporating Hippotherapy into their program or practice.
Are you a therapist, instructor or program administrator that has an interest in incorporating Hippotherapy into your program or your practice? Are you a new program or therapist new to using Hippotherapy in your practice? This 4 hour introductory course will give you a general overview of how we incorporate the use of Hippotherapy at HETRA and help guide you through the initial steps of how and where to get started. Topics to be covered include: recruiting and training of your therapy team including therapists, horses and volunteers; adaptive equipment, evaluation and assessment of prospective clients including review of precaution and contraindications, documentation and goal setting, the difference between therapeutic riding and Hippotherapy, and billing and insurance. The course will be conducted by the HETRA therapy team which includes the following qualifications: Hippotherapy Clinical Specialist, PATH Registered Therapist, Occupational Therapist and a Physical Therapist.
Track #2: EAAT Horse Management (12:00 - 4:00 pm)
Who: TR instructors, Program Administrators, Horse Managers
Are you interested in learning more about the care and management of horses used for therapeutic riding and Hippotherapy programs? This session will be an interactive educational opportunity, and will cover the following topics:
· Evaluation & Intake of prospective horses
· Donation vs Leasing horses & where do you find that perfect horse
· Training the EAAT Horse - focusing on both physical and mental well being of the equine
· The importance of creating a conditioning program & what does that look like for your center
· Goal setting & job suitability of the equine
· Discharge - when is it time to discharge, and what are your options for rehoming
· Importance of your horse care team
This course will be conducted by the HETRA horse management team
