FYI’s mission is to engage youth in positive, community-building activities while guiding and supporting them through childhood and adolescence. We envision our community of Latino youth as successful, healthy, lifelong learners with access to post-secondary education and a strong sense of citizenship and self-identity.

FYI provides free afterschool and summer programs to 500 Latino youth, ages 5 to 18, in the northern Manhattan community of Washington Heights. FYI’ers come from immigrant households in a community marked by poverty and low educational attainment. Families struggle with cultural and language differences, and lack resources to help children navigate their cultural and academic transitions.

FYI turns that trajectory around:

•FYI youth report increased confidence, self-reliance, and goal-setting skills
•FYI youth develop leadership skills by volunteering over 100 community service hours annually
•95% of FYI youth graduate to the next grade level in school
•95% of FYI’s high school students become the first in their families to enroll in college
Your support will:
  • Provide 360 hours of one-to-one tutoring per child for 60 students in grades 3-5 who read 2+ years below grade level
  • Send 60 middle school students on a 3-day incentive trip to camp in upstate NY for team-building, recreation, and a first time out of the city
  • Increase the number of high school students in our college preparedness program from 20 to 50
