Asphalt Green is a not-for-profit organization that empowers athletes and fitness enthusiasts of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to live active and healthier lives. From toddlers making their first splash in the water, to Olympic athletes training for glory, or older adults looking to stay active, we offer a diverse range of programs that provide our members with the tools and support they need to reach their goals.
Through our free and low-cost community programs, scholarships, swim school, sport leagues, and plenty more, we're working hard to expand access to transformative sports, fitness, and play programs to bring our vision to life.
I recently retired from playing professional soccer, and I wanted a goal to work toward, so I had my eye on either running road races or doing triathlons. I started working for Asphalt Green in the Development department in November, and when the opportunity presented itself to run for this wonderful organization, I took it!
2. Why did you want to run with Team Asphalt Green?
Like I mentioned, I started working at Asphalt Green in November. Everyone has been so kind since I started, and the mission, work ethic, and genuine dedication for the cause has been so uplifting that I am honored to be giving back in a unique way.
3. What do you love about running?
Being a competitor my whole life, running gives me an outlet to be competitive not only with others, but with myself. I have always run as a form of conditioning for soccer, so my journey in post-soccer conditioning through running has been an enjoyable journey so far.
4. Why are sports and fitness important?
Sports and fitness are important for overall health, of course. Something I find particularly unique is the power that sports have throughout the world. After playing in different cities and countries around the world, I have noticed that sports aren't just used as a catalyst to promote competition. It is also an outlet for kids to learn important skills such as teamwork, loyalty, and hard work. It is also a way for children to form friendships and engage with role models. Asphalt Green recognizes this and that is why I love this company and mission so much.
5. What songs are on your running playlist?
I love listening to the SoundCloud playlists called "Big Booty Mix!" It is just a fun mashup/remix of popular songs for about an hour. I listen to track 15 so much that I know how to pace my runs off of it!
