Please help support the youth in our community who look to a Big Brother or Big Sister mentor to be there for them no matter what. Your donation goes directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama's mentoring programs. I appreciate your support!
Take Little Brother Jacob and Big Brother Michael (pictured above) for example. They are a local match in Mobile, Alabama. Big Brother Michael joined BBBS in 2014 through our longtime corporate partnership with Wilkins Miller. Michael was matched with Little Brother Jacob, who was struggling with school and self-confidence. Over the years, Jacob’s grades gradually increased, and he is now averaging a “B” in math. This is an incredible accomplishment for him. In addition to improving his own academic success, Jacob feels more confident and is navigating his future with Big Brother Michael by his side.
What is the BIG Walk?
The BIG Walk is Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama's largest annual fundraiser and plays a vital role in carrying out our completely donor-supported mission year-round. It's an online, peer-to-peer fundraiser and we host a walk and celebration. This year, we are skipping the walk and heading right into the celebration for anyone who wants to attend (outdoors and socially-distanced).
Our Mission
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. We enlist adult volunteers, who we call “Bigs,” and match them with “Littles,” who are children between the ages of 6-12 and would benefit the most from having a Big. The purpose of our services is to give our children a caring and supportive adult mentor who will guide them to success, hold them accountable, and set their lives in a direction they never thought possible.
Our Focus
Our focus is on defending the potential of all youth. We consistently challenge and address systemic barriers of racial injustice and inequity. We stand firmly against violence, racism, injustice, and inequity. We invite you to join us in standing for inclusion, equity, and empowerment for the communities we serve.
The BIG Walk Campaign
We challenge each Big to create a fundraising page and raise at least $500 in celebration of their match. Our overall fundraising goal of $55,000 will help 100 new kids realize their potential and build their futures. Our average match cost, regardless of program or community, is $1,200.
Every dollar counts and don't worry if you can't make it to the celebration! We'll celebrate you regardless. Join us in being Defenders of Potential. We couldn’t do it without you.
